Setting up your Pinterest account
Basically, there are two types of Pinterest accounts:
- Personal accounts – For individuals who don’t want to utilize pinterest marketing tools such as Rich Pins and Promoted Pins.
- Business accounts – For businesses who want to use pinterest to market their brands. They will have access to Pinterest business tools.
Both accounts are basically the same, except for little additional features. If you don’t want access to rich pins, website analytics and ads, you don’t need a business account.
Visit www.pinterest.com and sign up using your favorite social media account, or email address.
Once your account is ready, start adjusting things to look more professional. Upload a profile picture and cover image. Write a professional profile name and description, to let people know what they can get from you.
For example, below is a complete profile on pinterest
As soon as you complete your account set up, start creating different boards according to the area you want to target. Ideally, 5 – 10 boards will be okay for new accounts.
These boards are where your pins go to.
They are also visible on pinterest search results, so make sure you write professional looking title and description for each board you create.
Once you have completed that, next step will be getting some followers.
Getting Pinterest Followers
Even though Pinterest is a discovery engine, you can’t be wrong to call it a social media. At first, people have to follow you, or interact with your pins to be able to see more pins from you.
In that case, you need to get as much followers as possible.
For new accounts, getting people to follow you depends on different factors, such as your Niche focus, audience size and type of pins you create.
There are two super easy ways to get Pinners follow you.
- Create pins your audience will find useful
- Follow your competitor’s audience
Now you may be thinking what kind of pins you should create when you don’t have a blog. It is simple, start with IDEA PINS
Pinterest has been pushing this type of pins higher on the platform. You don’t also need a blog or any web page to create an idea pin, as they don’t link to any source.
Plus people can instantly follow you through your pins!
For a start, focus your pin creation on idea pins for – let’s say four weeks to get more eyeballs and follows.
Another way to get more followers is to start following others (people who follow your competitors profile).
The trick is that, if they follow your competitors, they are most likely to follow you.
To find your competitor’s on pinterest, type in your focus keyword, eg.
Travel Guide on the search bar, if you are in the Travel space.
Once the page loads, click any pin image and extend the author’s profile.
Followers tab and see who followed them.
Start following them one after another. You will be able to follow up to 40 people per day. Don’t overdo it to avoid getting suspended on Pinterest.
Continue doing this for four weeks, and you will get a lot of Pinterest followers.
Next step it to monetize you Pinterest account.
