How to make money on Pinterest
To be able to make money on Pinterest, you need a winning strategy. You should carefully set up your Pinterest business account, get more followers and start a blog (at least). Though, you can also make money on Pinterest without a blog.
So let’s start with the basics…
Setting up your Pinterest Business Account
The first factor that determines if you will actually make money on Pinterest is how you set up your account.
This is true because if your Pinterest account isn’t clear of what it represents, it will only drive people away, and even confuse Pinterest. They won’t know where to rank your contents.
To start setting up your Pinterest account, go back to the drawing board and choose a niche if you haven’t already done that.
Choosing a niche is very important. It determines who follows your profile on Pinterest.
For example, let’s say you want to create content about ‘interior decoration’ on your blog and Pinterest, then your audience will be only people wanting to learn more about interior decoration.
And that will be your Niche.
If you have started a blog before now, I believe you already have a niche. The content focus of your blog. That should be the same with your pinterest account.
We will also show you how to choose a niche, when we get to that point (click here to navigate).
If your pinterest account is just about every topic, you will get random followers, and a very poor click-through to your blog or YouTube channel.
You get the point, right?
Set up your account profile in such a way that anyone who finds you on Pinterest knows exactly what you offer.
How to set up your Pinterest account
To start with, head over to business.pinterest.com and create an account for free, if you don’t have an account yet. If you already have a personal account, I will show you how to convert it to a business account later (click here to navigate).
Tap the red Sign Up Button and enter your email address, preferred password, and age.
Click Create Account and enter your Pinterest business details, including business name, website, country, and language. You can also add a profile picture at this step!
Next, Select an option from the drop-down menu under “What’s the focus of your brand?” and also select your business type from the “Describe Your Brand” screen.
Indicate if you are interested in running ads at any point.
On the next page, Pinterest will show you options for your next step.
You can either create a Pin, create an ad, or build your profile!
How to convert your personal account to a business account
If you already have a personal account, don’t terminate it. Instead, convert it.
Here is how to do it..
- Click the drop-down arrow in the upper right corner of Pinterest
- Select Settings and choose the Account Settings
- Scroll down to Account Changes and click Convert Account
- Double-check that the email address is the one associated with your Pinterest personal account
- Click Continue
Verify your Blog with Pinterest
The next step is verifying your blog. This will allow Pinterest to attribute all the content saved from your site to you!
You will also gain access to Pinterest Analytics, giving you a fantastic view of who your followers are, what your followers are likely to engage with, and what is driving traffic to your site.
To verify your blog, follow the following steps:
- Click the drop down menu in the upper right corner of Pinterest
- Select Settings and click Claim
- Enter your website URL in the “Claim your website” section
- Select Claim and Pick Claim option (You can add an HTML tag to your website or Upload an HTML file to your website’s root directory)
- Add the tag or file to your website in another tab, and then return to your open Pinterest tab and select Next
- Click Submit for Review and wait for Pinterest to verify (they’ll email you within 24 hours)
Create Pinterest boards
The next step in setting up your Pinterest account is to create relevant boards and add some pins to them.
You can start by creating two boards for each category on your blog, and expand your boards to even more categories that your followers might like.
To create a board, follow the next steps:
Createfrom the top menu and click
- Name your board and click
- Click the three dots at the right side of your pin and click
- Type in your board’s description.
Your boards will be pretty empty. It is okay to save other people’s pins to your new board if you don’t have a pin yet.
Getting a lot of followers on Pinterest
After Pinterest algorithm got some updates in 2020, things started to work differently. Pinterest now measures the quality of your pins by observing how your followers react to them. That means they will first show your pins to your followers before anyone else.
For that reason, getting more Pinterest Follows has become more important.
If you want to make money on Pinterest, you need thousands of Pinterest followers. But it is not that easy to get.
To get people start following you on pinterest, you need to:
- Create better pin images & Videos
- Pin regularly
- Comment on other people’s pin
- Share other people’s pin
- Be active on the platform.
More importantly, follow others!
Following other pinners will make others follow you.
Now, here is a simple hack…
Don’t follow every body! Only follow those who follow your competitors. This is because, if someone follows them, it is more likely they will follow you too.
To find your competitor’s followers, type in your main keyword on Pinterest search bar.
Click any relevant image and open the pinner’s profile.
Then, click on the “following” tab and start following them one after the other.
Pinterest limits the amount of people you can follow every day. So don’t waste your follow on profiles without a profile photo – they are mainly abandoned accounts.
When you follow people on Pinterest, they get a notification. Most of the time, they will follow you back.
Continues doing it for few weeks, and your followers will be growing.
Start a blog for cheap
If you don’t already have a blog, this step will show you how to start a blog for real cheap (you can skip to the nest step).
To start a blog, you need to:
- Find a Niche
- Get a host and Register a domain
- Deside on Blogging platform.
Find a Niche based on what’s trending on Pinterest
In blogging, your niche is your area of concentration. This is the area or topics you want to write about.
To find a Niche, take a look at what is trending on Pinterest.
Here is how to figure that out…
Visit trends.pinterest.com and you will be able to see what’s gaining popularity over and over again on Pinterest.
You can also type in any keywords on the search bar and see other trending topics.
For example, if I like to write about
Fashion trends, I will input the keyword (fashion) into the search bar and see the trend.
If I click ‘fashion’, Pinterest will show me other related trends in the fashion market.
From there, you can pick a niche and continue to the next step.
Validate your niche
You also have to make sure you are choosing a niche that:
- Is profitable
- Interest you
- Has a wider audience
- And can be easily monetized
You will need to do a simple keyboard research to discover if a niche is worth pursuing.
Use SEMRush for this.
Plug in a seed keyboard into SEMRush keyword tool and the software will reveal data such as:
- Keyboard search volume – This will help you get an insight on how many people are interested in that niche. Your audience size.
- The Keyword Difficulty – This should tell you how difficult it will be to rank that keyword on Google. (you don’t really need this if your are using Pinterest for traffic generation)
- Keyword CPC – How marketers are bidding for such keyword. This Will tell if a keyword is profitable. If it gets higher bids then it is profitable. Etc.
Then take a look at your competitor’s website and figure out how they monetize their content.
That’s really simple. In next step, you will learn how to register a domain name and get a reliable host.
Register a domain and get a host
Both domain name and website host are needed to start a blog. One cannot work without the other.
A hosting plan saves your contents on a remote server and makes it available to the world wide web. While a domain name points users to the right location of your content on the internet.
If you buy a hosting plan, you will be prompted to enter a domain name, and either register it, or change the name servers to point to your hosting.
Almost all the hosting companies will let you register a free domain name if you buy an annual plan.
